Week 1 Homework - PURPOSES OF MUSIC VIDEOS.

KANYE WEST - ALL OF THE LIGHTS

In this music there are wide range of camera angles which are used. throughout the music video there is a close up / cowboy angle technique used on the rapper Kanye West , when he is rapping in re occurring scenes  making it obvious that he should be the main focus and nothing which is in the background, due to the fact that it only shows his face and neck. However , there was also scenes nearing the end of the music video when there was a deep focus angle used , when Kanye is standing on top of the car , which made it clear to the viewer where he was, in a alley way on top of a police car. that scene not only used deep focus but also an aerial shot, it varied between those two styles throughout that 5 second scene.

Moving on , when chorus singer , Rihanna emerges in the video , the style of angles is once again changed , this time to a medium style shot, allowing the viewer to see how she looks , what she is wearing for fashion endorsement , and a lot more in the foreground and background to the recent close ups.

Furthermore, differing from the singers and rappers , the child which is supposed to be the protagonist in the video is followed with a range of styles , the low angle close up shot making her look bigger than she really is,  a high angle shot used in the first 15 seconds as she walks towards the door , showing just how small she is, the long rage shot used as she walks out of the building "towards" the camera, the wide angle style used as she walks towards the bus stop , the pan shot used as she turns right during her journey and finally the over the shoulder shot used as she walks through the quiet urban area.

These techniques all did the job in showing just how small she is in comparison to everything which was around her.
